Wooden Stretcher Bars for Needlepoint Projects
The F. A. Edmunds Mini Stretcher Bars are ½” x ½” which is ¼” smaller than their regular Stretcher Bars. They are perfect for needlepoint, cross-stitch, and painting.
Manufactured from soft basswood with eased edges, they eliminate the need to block your work. Simply combine any two sizes to form the exact size frame for your project. The stretcher bars eliminate movement and keep your work taut and clean. A “must have” for any serious needlepointer.

To Get Started
Choose the Right Size
- Measure the length and height of your canvas
- Buy two packs of wooden stretcher bars (one pack for the height, one for the width) that match the dimensions of your canvas.
Assemble the Frame
- Interlock the notched corners of the bars at right angles, aligning flat edges with flat edges
- Tap the corners firmly together using the palm of your hand or a rubber mallet until the frame forms a tight, even square.
Attach the Canvas
- Center your needlepoint canvas over the front of the assembled wooden frame.
- Push a brass tack or thumb tack into the center top of the canvas.
- Pull the canvas tight, directly across the center bottom, and insert a second tack.
- Repeat this push and pull method for the left and right sides, making sure the mesh stays even and taut.
- Fill the remaining spaces by adding tacks roughly every inch all the way around the frame.
Please note: The mini bars shown here and regular bars cannot be used together as they are different widths.
