The Details

The Charleston League is a 6-week beginner-intermediate Mahjong competition featuring individual play on Mondays: November 2nd, 9th, 16th, 30th, and December 7th and 14th (holiday breaks included). Choose either afternoon or evening sessions to suit your schedule. Permanent players are expected to commit to at least 4 of the 6 Mondays. We will ask for your availability in advance to help fill your spot should you be unavailable on a specific league day.

Play by NMJL rules with scoring based on the official NMJL card, plus bonus points for jokerless hands. Amazing prizes will be awarded for the top finishers of each session (1st, 2nd and 3rd place).

New to the league or prefer flexibility? Select "Sub Only" for $20—you'll be refunded in full if never called to play. Regular players compete across all six sessions for the chance to earn prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place at the end of the 6 weeks.

League players must be able to play independently without guidance or instruction. In 2 hours, all players must complete 4 games of Mahjong. If you finish before the 2 hour session, you are more than welcome to continue to play. The first 4 scores each session will contribute to your cumulative 6-week score.

Location & Directions

You’ll find The Pepper Pot inside the historic Ice House Mall in Barrington, Illinois. Public parking is available throughout the property.

The nearest entrance is off Applebee Street, near Jewel-Osco. Enter through the double glass doors beneath the brick arch, then head down the steps or ramp, we’re on the left. You’ll see signage along Lake-Cook Road and inside the building to guide you.

Registration & Cancellation Policy

Please register for your preferred date and time in advance, as seating is limited.

Cancellations made at least 48 hours before the start of Open Play are eligible for a full refund. We will offer the available seat to players on our waitlist. Refunds cannot be provided for cancellations made less than 48 hours before the event.
