The Details

Tile by Tile is our beginner series, designed for anyone new to American Mahjong. Over the span of two classes, you will be comfortable sitting down at any Mahjong table. We will teach you the tiles, rules, cadence of play, and how to Charleston like a pro. By the end of this second session you will be ready to jump in to Open Play or feel confident playing a pick-up game of American Mahjong. No previous experience required. We provide everything you need.

$125 per person includes two dedicated lessons, guided play, and The Pepper Pot's Play Guide. Participants must be able to attend both sessions. Each session is 2-2.5 hours in length, for a total instruction time of roughly 4-5 hours.

Participants must cancel before 48 Hours of the Start of Class for a full refund. No credit or refunds will be available after the 48 hour window has elapsed. Your ticket is transferrable.

Location & Directions

You’ll find The Pepper Pot inside the historic Ice House Mall in Barrington, Illinois. Public parking is available throughout the property.

The nearest entrance is off Applebee Street, near Jewel-Osco. Enter through the double glass doors beneath the brick arch, then head down the steps or ramp, we’re on the left. You’ll see signage along Lake-Cook Road and inside the building to guide you.

Registration & Cancellation Policy

Please register for your preferred date and time in advance, as seating is limited.

Cancellations made at least 48 hours before the start of Open Play are eligible for a full refund. We will offer the available seat to players on our waitlist. Refunds cannot be provided for cancellations made less than 48 hours before the event.
